Rankings & Research

The 2023 BMW 8-Series’s #5 ranking is based on its score within the Luxury Sports Cars category. Currently the BMW 8-Series has a score of 8.7 out of 10, which is based on our evaluation of 22 pieces of research and data elements using various sources.

Is the 2023 BMW 8 Series a Good Car?

Yes, the BMW 8 Series is a very good luxury sports car. Three tantalizing engine choices provide thrilling acceleration, and handling is a pleasing blend of poise and polish. Inside, design and quality fit the bill, and the tech features are pretty intuitive. BMW offers the 8 Series in a four-door sedan – called the Gran Coupe – along with a two-door coupe and convertible. All body styles have welcoming front seats and a surprisingly good amount of cargo space.

The 8 Series’ middling ranking in the class is due to some areas where it comes up just good instead of great. While this car is very fun to drive, it could get dusted on twisty roads by some racier rivals. Additionally, rear passenger space ranges from just adequate in the Gran Coupe to pretty tight in the coupe and convertible.

Should I Buy the 2023 BMW 8 Series?

The 8 Series has a lot of appeal, especially if you like the wide range of powertrain and body style combinations. Picking the Gran Coupe gets you more utility than you might expect from a car like this, while the two-door models evoke a greater sense of sportiness.

Though prices start in the high five figures and creep up into the $130,000 range, a long list of features makes the 8 Series a relatively decent value proposition.

How Much is a 2023 BMW 8-Series?

The 2023 BMW 8-Series starts at $87,500 for the 840i coupe and Gran Coupe, which puts it roughly midpack among luxury sports cars. It features a 335-horsepower turbocharged inline-six and a long list of amenities like Merino leather upholstery, heated front seats and a widescreen infotainment system. The midrange M850i xDrive coupe and Gran Coupe start at $102,500 and feature a 523-horsepower twin-turbocharge V8 engine. The highest-performance versions of the 8 Series—the M8 Competition coupe, Gran Coupe and convertible—have base prices of around $134,000 to $144,000, and they feature 617-horsepower V8 engines.
